At the end of August 2017, the grassroots level council approved the project “Research on the extraction of pure coconut oil by non-heating technology” under the National Technology Innovation Program that held at Luong Quoi Coconut Processing Co., Ltd, Ben Tre province. M.S Phuong Nguyen who is working in Biology Center – Institute of Technology Application is the project manager. The total budget of the project is over 10.5 billion VND, in which the state budget is 7.35 billion VND.
In 5 years of implementation, the project has focused on research to develop a technological process for extracting pure coconut oil by non-heating in the laboratory scale; building a technological process for extracting pure coconut oil by non-heating in the industrial scale; research to determine factors affecting coconut oil quality; trial a technological process for extracting pure coconut oil by non-heating in the industrial scale with production lines of 3,000 liters/batch (300 l/h) at Luong Quoi Coconut Processing Co., Ltd, An Hiep industrial park, Chau Thanh district, Ben Tre province.
At the acceptance session, the Council highly appreciated the results of the project. That completed the quality of the set targets, the volume and types of products required and some requirements have exceeded the plan. In particular, the most outstanding is the construction of a production line and technology process of extracting pure coconut oil by non-heating in the industrial scale which has been successfully applied at Luong Quoi Coconut Processing Co., Ltd, create pure coconut oil products with commercial value higher than 25% compared with products manufactured using old refining technology. The Council concluded that the project was eligible to conduct national level acceptance.
Mr. Long Do Thanh, the Office director of National Science and Technology Programs, said: That was the first systematically scientific research in Vietnam on the technology of extracting pure coconut oil from the fresh coconut by centrifugal method does not use high temperature, that creates quality products, improving the added value of coconut.
