Typical successful application of TWI model at Phong Phu Household Textile JSC

Training Within Industry (TWI) is a popular form of enterprise training with essential skills training programs for supervisors with the aim of improving guidance skills, teamwork skills and optimizing working methods.

This model is also the foundation for many advanced tools such as Lean production system, 5S improvement tool, Kaizen, Total ProductiveMaintenance (TPM), Total Quality Management (TQM).

Within the framework of the National Program “Improving the productivity and quality of products and goods of Vietnamese enterprises to 2020” implemented by the Center for SMEDEC 2, Phong Phu Textile Joint Stock Company has chosen to participate in the application of the TWI training group model and has achieved many remarkable achievements.

Participating in the program, the board of directors of Phong Phu Company boldly invested, upgraded equipment and automation machinery for the factory to meet the requirements of improvement and improvement of management capacity. The Modern equipment system has opened up many new opportunities in the company’s improvement roadmap. In addition, management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 is also used as a standard measure to support production and business activities.

After preparing the facilities, the TWI Training Team selected the astringent workshop, sewing workshop and office as the pilot target of the training group model. Here, the participants have been cultivated many different skills to improve management capacity. For example:

Job Guidance Skills (JIT): The team has guided to ensure the uniformity of workers’ workmanship, reduce high error rates, limit waste of quality control time and handle defects at each stage, standardize the process of training employees, thereby improving production capacity and product quality.

Work Method Improvement Skills (JMT): The TWI training team of enterprises has supported the middle management team in charting, analyzing, thereby making quick and timely decisions to help limit unworthy losses. In addition, the team also improved the production process in the process of arranging and packing yarn rolls. The result after the improvement was reduced from 4 to 2 workers (1 packaging worker and 1 packing) but still ensured the capacity reached 4 tons / day thanks to the investment in most stainless steel vehicles containing fibers and reduced by 3.5 hours / day (is the time to arrange the rolls on pallets).

Skills for improving working relationships (JRT): The TWI team has consulted to improve the relationship between managers and employees, while supporting the resolution of problems that helped the percentage of workers quit compared to the same period last year at the workshop.

With the development of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the automation of production processes has helped many enterprises improve production expertise by applying flexible technology, highly customizable. Machinery will become an independent body capable of collecting data, analyzing and advising the manufacturing industry. Regarding the role of man, the producer will communicate with the machine instead of controlling it. The biggest difference of this Revolution is the actual connection between people, machines and objects.
