Toyota Vietnam supports enterprises to improve productivity through Monozukuri program

With expectation to support businesses to improve labor productivity and business efficiency, contributing to the development of human resources for Vietnam, Toyota Vietnam Motor Company (TMV) continues to coordinate with Hanoi University of Science and Technology to implement Monozukuri Program – The secret to success in production and business in 2018.

This is the 14th year the program has been implemented to help Vietnamese businesses and technical students access and understand more about the Toyota Production System (Toyota Production System – TPS) as well as share the secrets of success of Toyota. This year, the program still focuses on 2 main activities including deploying 6 training courses for businesses, students and 2 pilot improvement models (Kaizen showcase) in two enterprises that have participated in Monozukuri program to survey, find out issues and propose innovative and corrective solutions during the period from August 2018 to March 2019.

Under the teaching of lecturers from HUST and Toyota experts, the Monozukuri training courses focus on providing students with the following main contents: The basic pillars of TPS (production at the right time – JIT/Just in time, intelligent automation – Jidoka, standard work – Standardized Work); waste elimination and continuous improvement (Kaizen & Muda); Logistics and inventory management by TPS method.

In particular, this year, the teaching method of the program has many improvements towards students participating more in games, group discussions, case exercises, identifying problems in the practical production of company and propose appropriate solutions. In addition, students learn how to apply TPS through visiting tours of Toyota factories and some businesses that have participated in the previous Monozukuri program. In addition, the program also organizes intensive training courses for businesses to help students apply the theory of TPS to their businesses right in the learning process. Students will be directed at the field by the instructor to guide how to find improvement topics and practice improvement at the production site.

To date, the Monozukuri program has successfully organized 47 training courses for 368 students from more than 129 businesses and students, receiving positive reviews on the quality and practical effectiveness of the program. In addition, the program has successfully implemented 5 pilot improvement models at Vietnam Precision Industrial Co., Ltd. I (VPIC1), LeGroup, Woodsland Joint Stock Company, HPC Joint Stock Company and EMTC Joint Stock Company, helps enterprises successfully apply TPS to production and achieve significant progress in production and business management activities such as: increasing labor productivity, reducing product error rate, reducing internal travel distances, balancing lines, raising awareness on improvement of employees.
