Thien Nam: Small change, great success

With the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in applying 5S productivity improvement tools and maintaining overall equipment performance (TPM), Thien Nam Investment and Development Joint Stock Company has gradually improved professionalism, bringing high efficiency in production and business activities.

With the aim of becoming the leading company in Vietnam’s textile and garment industry in the field of yarn business and supply, from July 2018 to October 2019, Thien Nam participated in the 5S Good Practice Guide program” and TPM within the framework of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Program on Improving Productivity – Quality of Products and Industrial Goods chaired by the Department of Science and Technology and Epro Consulting Joint Stock Company.

With the support of consultants, from July to October 2018, Thien Nam successfully implemented 5S Thien Nam Factory 2 program. From the above success, the company simultaneously deployed 5S tools at the remaining 4 factories of enterprises located in The An district (Binh Duong province). The company also prepares resources to be ready together with consultants to apply TPM to production management. Accordingly, Thien Nam has organized the Cognitive Training Program and 5S maintenance steps with the orientation of “Change, great success” to meet the requirements of raising the level of 5S implementation of the company. At the same time, ensuring the maintenance of 5S, creating an airy, clean space and raising the awareness and capacity of employees at the company. Ban 5S – Kaizen has been established and developed operational regulations; responsible for examining, urging, evaluating, commending and rewarding individuals and collectives who do well and have many initiatives in the production and business process.

After 3 months of implementing the 5S program, 100% of the company’s staff and employees have been trained in 5S and evaluated to meet the standards; 100% of departments have 5S standards and criteria. At the same time, the company has conducted people drawing walkways for people, forklifts; arrange danger warning signs of altitude; add name signs, labels, make sure all items are located and identified. In particular, the company has standardized the location, classifying utensils by color, both creating aesthetics and ensuring the principle of consiable, easy to get, easy to return the original position

In parallel with the 5S implementation, the company also deployed TPM at Thien Nam 2 factory to best support production activities. Mr. Pham The Hien – Managing Director of Thien Nam 2 Factory – said: TPM is implemented with the pillars: self-governance, maintenance (AM), education and training, planned maintenance (PM) and central improvement (FI). These activities are aimed at: No waste – No stopping problems – No losses and no accidents”. In the first 3 months of implementation, TPM board has focused on examining and improving forms and records on AM, PM, training form and OEE calculation data collection form (Overall performance of equipment).

TPM implementation activities at the site have been carried out in cooperation with the training with the following contents: Practical guidelines on how to tag red cards, guidelines on central improvement. In addition, the company also applies software to manage effectively.

Mr. Pham The Hien – Managing Director of Thien Nam Factory 2: From the benefits that TPM operation brings to Thien Nam 2 factory, it is expected that, in 2020, the company will implement TPM at the remaining factories of Thien Nam.
