The strong impact of AR technology on manufacturing industry (Part 1)

Augmented Reality (AR) technology is developing strongly and gradually asserting its importance in industrial production.

Augmented reality technology is an indispensable component of a future in which 3D production models, internet space and the space around people are connected as a whole. This is also where the digital will blend with reality and all physical objects like humans and machines in the form of electronic parameters and can all be managed, adjusted by Big data, in a transparent ecosystem like blockchain.

Many manufacturers have been beginning to learn about the enormous benefits that augmented reality technology can bring in industrial production environments. This is a new trend in parallel with the development of hardware and software to support this technology line. Like many other emerging technologies, we’ve only touched the tip of an iceberg called augmented reality. There are still many interesting things to be discovered that this technology can bring to industrial production.

Modern industrial manufacturing involves assembling complex engineering parts with hundreds to thousands of parts, jobs that require the fastest and most precise coordination possible. Whether it’s building a smartphone or a jet, each new product requires a separate assembly process.

According to Ash Eldritch – CEO and co-founder of Vital Enterprise (an augmented reality software development company): “The instructions in your work are often encapsulated in PDF files and are often difficult to use. Moreover, these documents are rarely updated very often. We upgrade those tutorials into something that can help you with online visuals while getting your work done without getting in the way, and also with voice control. Thereby, we analyze the available documents in parallel with the technical drawings and process videos of the users and then put them into the AR glasses’ memory. This means you will save the effort of having to carry heavy documents when doing your work”.

VR is also the fundamental foundation for IoT technology to unleash its potential, called the Internet of Actions,

While the concept of information projected onto a display might seem novel, supporting complex assembly processes has become an experimental application of AR technology.
