In order to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese products and goods, low cost logistics services and the ability to respond to customer requirements will contribute to promoting domestic and foreign trade and the development of the national economy.
Ms. Nguyen Minh Thao – Head of Research Department of Business Environment and Competitiveness (Central Institute for Economic Management) – said that: “Logistics is the backbone of international trade. The development of logistics industry. will create conditions for Vietnam to quickly become a new production center in the region, with high labor productivity and good competitiveness, etc”.
However, in our country, although the logistics industry has a fast growth rate, about 14% – 16%, with a scale of about 40 to 42 billion USD / year; However, there are still many weaknesses such as high costs, lack of linkage between service enterprises and production, trading, import-export enterprises; The scale and financial potential of Vietnamese logistics enterprises are also weak, information technology development and application is limited, mainly at the simple level, etc.
To improve the competitiveness of the logistics industry, the Government has issued many important policies such as: Decision 200 / QD-TTg approving the Action Plan to improve competitiveness and develop Vietnam’s logistics services. by 2025; Resolution No. 19-2018 / NQ-CP on continuing to perform major tasks and solutions to improve the business environment and improve national competitiveness; Directive No. 21 / CT-TTg on promoting the implementation of solutions to reduce logistics costs, effectively connect the transport infrastructure system.
Ms. Nguyen Minh Thao also said that the Government needs to create a legal corridor to support the development of application of technology solutions in the logistics industry; formulating policies to promote interdisciplinary e-commerce and logistics; at the same time have policies to encourage logistics enterprises to invest in technology; Especially, it is necessary to research and apply blockchain technology in the management of logistics services to reduce costs, increase competitiveness as well as apply smart contracts to replace paperwork and shorten time.
In addition, in order to cut costs and improve the competitiveness of the logistics industry, it is necessary to review the bridge and road system with low load signs; have appropriate solutions, create favorable conditions for the transport of goods to operate; implementing the planning for the construction of container parking lots and trucks to ensure convenience for goods transportation, contributing to reducing logistics costs; seriously implementing the 50% reduction of business conditions in accordance with the Government’s direction, ensuring the essence and effectiveness; at the same time, building and developing transport transaction floors, taking advantage of two-way transportation, limiting empty containers; Ministries and branches must connect administrative procedures through the national single-window portal, avoiding the case of both online submission and paper submission.
The potential of the logistics industry is still great; The transition is going strong compared to the digital trend as well as the development of e-commerce, increasing the level of the supply chain.
