Controlling, managing and operating remote power grids on the basis of applying smart technology implemented by Southern Power Corporation (EVN SPC) in 21 provinces and cities in the South has brought about remarkable efficiency, shorten the time of power outages, reduce costs and increase power supply reliability.
The incident was discovered and fixed soon
Representative of Binh Thuan Power Company (PC) said that when there is no smart grid, detecting power grid incidents takes a lot of time, due to the search on the field. Thanks to the application of new technology in monitoring electrical system operation, it is easy to detect, isolate the area and the problem can be solved faster.
Accordingly, the remote grid operation control system will continuously collect data and parameters of power grid operation. In particular, the system can report the problem and determine exactly the incident area. All collected information is transmitted to the operating department and displayed on the company’s system. Here, when any incident occurs, it is easy to detect within 2 minutes; The staff of the bureau does not need to go to the field but can close/cut electrical equipment tens of kilometers away from zone, isolate and notify the area to suspend power supply. Thus, technical staff can overcome in the fastest time, reduce the time of power failure, improve the reliability of power supply for customers. Since the smart grid system has been put into operation, it has significantly reduce human resource requirements…
Finished, synchronized smart grid
According to Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Duc – General Director of EVN5 SPC, EVN SPC’s smart grid has completed connecting SCADA system of power plants, transformer stations (TBA) with voltage of 110kV or higher under the scope of management. In particular, system has connected SCADA, remote control 209/209 110kV station. For 110kV customer substations, 100% of 110kV TBAs have connected SCADA to A2 and 7/7 customer power plants have connected SCADA to A2.
In exploiting and developing SCADA/DMS system, EVN SPC has connected SCADA and remote control 832 Recloser, 73 LBS. In 2018 and 2019, expanding the control connection further 1,855 Recloser / LBS; pilot connection of 20 FI fault indicator sets in Ba Ria – Vung Tau PC to SCADA system. The Corporation also put into operation control centers and 110kV substations without personnel; in which, complete the transfer of remote control work of 110kV stations to the Remote Control Center of power companies; deploy 110kV unattended station so that by 2020, 100% of 110kV stations are unattended.
In sync with the smart grid, the southern power industry also modernized the metering system. So far, EVN SPC has improved the quality of measurement data at power plants, boundary measuring transmission and transmission points for shared data warehouse of EVN; improve the rate of electronic meters and collect telemetry data for electricity customers. The Corporation completed collecting telemetry data for 100% of total meters at public TBAs and customers with specialized TBAs.
EVN SPC is also actively deploying electronic meters to replace mechanical devices that are less accurate and labor-intensive; build systems to collect remote parameters, capable of automating most operations from index recording, analysis and data transmission according to management needs. At the same time, reducing power loss, improving customer service quality and assisting customers to control power consumption, improve safety in electricity use.
