Son Ha energy increased productivity by 16% by applying 5S

Son Ha Energy Development Joint Stock Company (SHE) is a well-known manufacturer of solar water heaters in the market. With the desire to improve production efficiency, in mid-2018, the Company registered to participate in the program “Training and guiding 5S good practices in industrial and commercial enterprises” implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and EPRO Consulting Joint Stock Company.

Good Practice Practicing 5S has been implemented by SHE in the whole factory in Phung Industrial Zone, Dan Phuong District, Ho Chi Minh City. Hanoi is under the direction of Mr. Hoang Manh Tan, the director of the company and the urging of Mr. Dang Van Thuy – Plant Manager.

After 6 months of implementation, SHE has obtained some results as follows:

  • The working environment of the whole factory becomes more open, cleaner and safer, the morale of workers is better;
  • For the warehouse area, reducing the time of exporting and importing goods, reducing the inventory time from 3 days to 1 day (only 01 staff member).
  • With the part packing area, the parts are better managed, reducing spillage and confusion during packaging.
  • With the bottle finishing area, workers work more conveniently, increase productivity and increase overall factory productivity by 16%.
  • Employees are more aware of 5S, so the implementation of 5S has become more substantive than anti-inhibiting as before.

Compared to the initial goal when registering to participate in the program, this result is consistent with the expectations of businesses and consultants, the plant’s productivity has also improved significantly. Ms. Do Thi Hong Giang, dispatcher, planning department and 5S secretary said: “Never before have I produced more than 350-380 bottles / day but now up to more than 400 bottles/day.”

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, deputy head of insulation team cum member of 5S Board emphasized: “Thanks to 5S, the movement of semi-finished products between stages, especially in the insulation area, has been much faster and more productive. of the tank team clearly see, in addition, the team also cut a manpower to mobilize to another department.”

Good implementation of 5S not only helps to improve labor efficiency but also changes the attitude of workers. Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong, warehouse staff, shared: “In the past, it was difficult to get anything, especially stamps and water pipes. Now everything has a subdivision and a clear address, so my job is much more convenient, time for inventorying, if I focus on it, only I can do it during the day”.

After receiving direct support from consultants, Son Ha Energy Development Joint Stock Company commits to continue maintaining 5S as an inseparable activity of the production process. Along with 5S, Son Ha Energy also actively implements continuous equipment improvement to continuously improve productivity and product quality, better and better meet customer requirements.
