Software to fine-tune the process helps Tata Steel reduce downtime (Part 3)

When new machines are installed, initial backups are made more often. When it is confirmed that everything is running smoothly and reliably, the period of time may be extended. Fortunately, setting up and changing backup jobs in Versiondog is a very simple process.

“In the past, we used to create backups with the sole purpose of making backups,” El Haddad recalls. “With the amount of equipment we have, it is a huge waste of time. Now our teams know when to change and when to back up.”

Some units automatically back up their networked devices. Other units carry out such work manually because they have many independent, separate machines. For that reason, devices are not connected to the network. One of the many advantages of the Versiondog system is that it supports both automatic and manual backups equally well. In addition, there are units that follow the Change Protocol Administration and documenting each change is extremely important.

HTD at Tata Steel believes: “Although Versiondog has been used before, its benefits are always maintained; We always know who changed what and why. Documents focusing on changes are always of great value.”

Whenever Versiondog is released to new users, the team always pays great attention to the security of the network. Meeting different security requirements of different manufacturing plants is another area in which this software provides a high degree of flexibility.

HTD can easily grant and manage centralized access, according to the needs and desires of each unit. An advantage of this is that if a unit is later reorganized, the system administrator doesn’t need to be called to resolve access rights. A number of outside contractors have also been granted access to the Versiondog system so they can test projects on their own.

In fact, maintenance technicians are happy that Versiondog allows them to access detailed production system data. This shows how much they trust the system. Exactly so, because all changes made by contractors can easily be viewed and approved. And if a change still doesn’t produce the desired result, the previous version can quickly be restored to the device.
