Software to fine-tune the process helps Tata Steel reduce downtime (Part 1)

In fact, many steelmakers in Europe are currently facing financial problems due to the huge competition in this region.

Most businesses here have to have the line operating 24/7, so the equipment is often problematic. A general article that every manager is looking for is a solution to limit problems on the device while ensuring their operating frequency.

At Tata Steel, the change management program and versiondog version control software have become a proven and effective means to combat downtime and increase production costs.

Tata Steel is one of the most geographically diverse steel producers, with manufacturing plants in 26 countries and commercial operations in more than 35 countries. In Europe, Tata Steel is the second largest steel producer.

Tata Steel’s manufacturing facilities not only use advanced technology in all areas, but also pay close attention to the life cycle cost. There is virtually no other way to produce competitive steel in Europe. Also indispensable is a maintenance department that is able to respond quickly when needed, and is updated technology every minute like the factory.

Version change management and versatile change management software have played an important role at Tata Steel for a while. Tata Steel was first used by the company in 2011 at the Ijmuiden plant in the Netherlands. At the time, this type of software was not entirely new to the company. Since 2005, they have used a version control product called VersionWorks, then distributed by Dutch version control specialist, Agilitec BV. After discontinuing support for VersionWorks in 2010, Agilitec and AUVESY decided to cooperate. Agilitec has become a universal distributor for Benelux countries since then.

In the Netherlands, as in other countries, Tata Steel is structured into decentralized business units that each have their own product groups and production facilities. They can be cold rolled bars or hot rolled bars.

After switching to Versiondog, we approached all Tata units in the Netherlands to speak with them about multiple languages. That’s how we came into contact with HTD’s central service team, Yme Bosma, CEO of Agilitec BV.
