Progress of TPM program implemented at EMTC Company

Mechanical Export Joint Stock Company (EMTC) has joined the TPM program supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade since July 2020. After more than 2 months of implementation, TPM activities at EMTC Company have achieved some positive results, contributing to the increase of OEE index by 2% compared to before implementing innovative solutions.

The TPM program at EMTC is piloted in the start-wiper processing area, in which self-governing maintenance (AM) is applied to all 4 specialized machining machines, while improving operations. FI and calculation of the overall equipment performance index (OEE) are done in advance at 1 machine to ensure that it is consistent with the current Company’s resources in data collection.

Through the calculation of OEE at the machining machine K206 shows, the overall equipment performance loss comes from the equipment availability loss. Specifically, the loss of server availability comes mainly from raw material preparation time, tools and supplies. The solution is to prepare sufficient materials before operation, move the position of the machines in the line according to the product line to reduce the material transportation distance, contributing to increase the output of the whole line.

In addition, to reduce short-time downtime, it is necessary to increase abnormal detection activities and tag the device, synthesize the card log at the device to complete the periodic maintenance schedule. Self-managed maintenance is currently mainly applied to only 1 machine, before the end of the program next October, this activity will be extended to 3 other machines in the same starter wiper production line.

TPM implementation at EMTC shows some experiences that can be applied in other factories such as: needing to deploy self-managed maintenance on a large scale (1 workshop, 1 line) to improve the emulation god of the operator because this is the main object of autonomous maintenance. Training sessions and practical tutorials require operators to participate, avoiding management participation and no internal training activity. In addition, setting up one-point lessons and photos before and after TPM helps to create a set of training materials that are intuitive and easy to guide new staff, helping to reduce training time.
