Labor productivity is a key factor determining the competitiveness and long-term survival of an enterprise, in order to improve labor productivity and technology, the quality of human resources plays a key role in the success of each business.
Accordingly, from 2017 to 2018, Vietnam Institute of Productivity presided over the task of “Training and supporting the application of pilot Lean – 6 Sigma models to enterprises of textile, footwear, electronics and mechanics” of the project” Improving product quality and product and industry quality “of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Thereby, 161 students from enterprises of these sectors are trained in basic knowledge of Lean 6 Sigma, how to implement Lean – 6 Sigma at enterprises. Since then, selecting and training 31 Lean – 6 Sigma gold belt experts and 24 Lean – 6 Sigma green experts. This is the foundation and basis for replicating this model in industry enterprises.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Director of Institute of Productivity (VNPI) – said: In the context of integration, industry enterprises must compete increasingly fiercely to be able to participate in global value chains. Participation in the new generation of CPTPP and bilateral and multilateral trade agreements is believed to be the key to helping Vietnam’s key industries such as textiles, footwear, electronics, etc, grow strongly. To be prepared for integration, one of the measures that the industry needs to focus on is to improve the quality of human resources through training of qualified personnel in practical techniques and practicality, equipping them with essential knowledge of modern technology, including management technology.
“The application of Lean – 6 Sigma model will help enterprises reduce production costs, create products of stable quality, reduce costs, increase competitiveness with imported goods” – Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan emphasized.
According to Ms. Vu Hong Dan – Head of Consulting, Productivity Improvement – VNPI, if combining Lean with 6 Sigma, businesses will be able to achieve 7 gold benefits for their growth: Reduce production costs, reduce management costs, increase customer satisfaction, reduce supply time, timely delivery, flexible production, etc. Therefore, businesses must first train a core team of staff about productivity improvement at the enterprise. If Lean 6 Sigma Gold experts are usually process operators, in the sense of production or office (transaction), then Lean expert 6 Sigma Green Belt is the project leader responsible for practicing the project from when starting to finish work. The requirement for them is also higher, in particular they need to have skills in computing, especially a process of statistical control of the process and must be proficient in their professional work.
With the desire to replicate the staff who can identify and implement innovative projects in industry enterprises, the Vietnam Institute of Productivity has proposed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to continue implementing intensive training courses on Lean – 6 Sigma gold belts, green belts, black belts for all businesses in the industry and nationwide.
