Planned maintenance helps reduce the number of machine failures and improve production efficiency

Duy Khanh Engineering Co., Ltd is one of the leading companies in the field of precision engineering in Vietnam, with many famous products in the domestic market such as: Continuous stamping mold, plastic injection mold, mold bottle blowing, forming molding, etc.

In September 2019, the Director of Duy Khanh Mechanical Company decided to register for the program to support the pilot application of overall performance management (TPM) tool for industrial enterprises of the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Trade with the aim of improving productivity and quality in enterprises.

During the 3 months of joining the program (from October 2019 to December 2019), the company had 8 working sessions with experts, as well as being guided directly by experts at the factory. The pilot implementation with CNC machines No. 9 and No. 10 has brought many positive results:

  • For AM pillar:

The company has carried out cleaning equipment and cleaning equipment as clean as when they first bought them. As a result, during the device cleaning process, the red card locations were discovered, and the images during the cleaning process were used to document the Basic Cleaning Guide (Do clean, lubricate, check, tighten – CLIT). The results recorded after 2 months showed that CNC machines operate more stably, reducing minor errors that cause machine stops. Realizing the benefits of cleaning equipment in the AM pillar, the company has replicated this activity to 9 more machines.

  • For PM pillar:

After performing maintenance and full maintenance for 2 pilot machines (CNC machines No. 9 and No. 10), Production Foreman said that the number of machine failures that had to stop production was reduced from 23 cases in October / 2019 down to 11 cases in November 2019.

Realizing the benefits of compliance with the maintenance schedule, the company decided to prioritize maintenance for 104 extended machines (update the 2019 maintenance plan and renew the 2020 maintenance plan for 104 machines. ).

  • For Centralized Innovation (FI) pillars:

Improved the clamping for the milling machine to increase efficiency from clamping 01 item / time to 10 items / time.

Improved knife grinding process, reducing knife sharpening time and improving knife sharpening capacity from 2 to all M&E staff and operators.

Following the above successes, the TPM Board expects the program to be deployed and replicated for all remaining machines, and at the same time combined with 5S tools to achieve the highest efficiency.
