Nestlé: Applying innovative tools to improve quality and productivity (Part 2)

Incorporate improved tools for greater efficiency

Besides the benefits of applying lean, Nestle also combines implementation of many other tools to achieve greater efficiency. Typically, the combination of TQM and CQI. In TQM, the customer will decide whether the quality of the product is good or not. Therefore, all improvements are related to the relationship between the customer and the manufacturer, towards the needs of the customer. Accordingly, TQM principles will become the basis for developing improvement plans, while CQI is the driving force to promote and maintain those plans.

The combination of these two tools has brought Nestle many benefits such as: Cost savings due to limited production of products that are not suitable for customers; reduce costs for handling derivatives that affect the environment and maintain the stability of product quality; building a scientific, creative and always creative working environment; Strengthening position and reputation with partners around the world.

Raw material control

Control of input materials is always one of the top concerns of Nestle, because they think that leaving them inventory is a big waste. Nestle experts are currently addressing this issue based on the JIT principle. In other words, they only allow the company to prepare just enough material for each weekend to prepare the input material for the next production cycle.

Nestlé has built a new storage space adjacent to the finished product warehouse to reduce transit time. In addition, the finished pallets after stocking must be placed in the prescribed position before being loaded onto the truck. The well-coordinated coordination between production and transportation stages saves space and time resources, and helps managers better control the inventory of raw materials. This also means that the product quality is significantly improved because the waiting time of the material is minimal, the wastage in this process is also limited. On the other hand, Nestle also saves on storage space and transportation costs.

Mr. Christian Schmid, Technical Manager for Asia, Africa and Oceania of Nestlé Group, said: “Quality and safety for consumers is Nestlé’s top priority. This applies to Nestlé. All of our products from all over the world, from food and beverages to all systems and services, we are proud to continue delivering Swiss quality, nutritious products to all. consumers in the world.”
