Nam Dinh – Some results for implementing quality productivity program

Since 2010, the provincial People’s Committee has approved the project: “Enhancing the quality and productivity (NSCL) of products and goods of small and medium enterprises in Nam Dinh province”.

In order to implement this project, the Department of Standards – Metrology – Quality (TDC) under the Department of Science and Technology has endeavored to coordinate with the business community to successfully apply management systems as well as models and improved tools to reduce waste in production and gradually improve the capacity of enterprises.

NSCL enhancement programs have brought positive results for Nam Dinh such as training 8 experts, supporting the construction of quality management system for 57 enterprises, 16 construction enterprises applying advanced tool. The program has contributed to replicating the application of management systems such as LEAN, TPM, MFCA, KPI, 5S, Kaizen, etc. Among them, many businesses have achieved many successes, improving productivity through tools. improve quality productivity such as Nam Ha Garment Joint Stock Company, Nam Duoc Company Limited, Duc Thang Loi Joint Stock Company, etc.

Nam Ha Garment Joint Stock Company is one of the businesses that is very active in applying advanced quality management system and achieving high efficiency. Starting to access the NSCL system in 2010, the company has adopted lean lean manufacturing as its first step. After 6 months of application, the Company’s labor productivity in 2010 increased by 110 USD/person/month, equivalent to 128% compared to the same period of 2009.

Recognizing the effectiveness of applying a management system. Since then, the company has continuously applied the implementation of projects to improve its quality to increase corporate governance capacity, quality of human resources, and innovation of machinery and equipment. Up to now, the Company has successfully applied the ISO 9001 international quality management system integrated with 14001 management system, 5S system, Kaizen, KPI, TPM. After 8 years of participation, the Company’s labor productivity has increased on average 15% per year.

Previously, Nam Duoc Co., Ltd had many difficulties in production so the productivity was not high. Under that situation, the Company has applied the LEAN model in production practice. Immediately after applying, labor productivity has increased by nearly 200%, production capacity of enterprises has increased by nearly 30%. Thanks to the renovation, the scientific arrangement of the workshop space has helped reduce the storage area of ​​materials and intermediate products by more than 1,000 m3 compared to before.

In addition to these two businesses, Duc Thang Loi Joint Stock Company has also focused on improving equipment, production processes, working style of workers. As a result, the Company saved excess materials, labor productivity increased from 20 -25%. Previous problems such as material loss, wasting time traveling in the factory, etc have been resolved.

Thus, looking at the successes of the above businesses, the focus on promoting productivity improvement activities in enterprises, building corporate culture to proactively identify appropriate options for improvement. Improving productivity is an urgent issue of every business seeking to develop. In addition, businesses need to be brave and determined to invest in renewing equipment and technology commensurate with the increasingly improved quality management system, towards leanness, convenience and high efficiency.
