Nam A Automotive Trading Co., Ltd. improves productivity by applying the Work Sampling solution

Work Sampling is a statistical technique that determines the percentage of time workers spend on each job category, including idle time. Sampling not only provides an overview for managers in using resources, but also helps them find bottlenecks to remove to improve the performance of the whole process.

According to a study by SMEDEC 2, the actual working time is only about 40-60% (that is, in 8 working hours, they only actually work 3 to 5 hours). This is a big waste in the organization if not remedied soon. In our country, there are many businesses applying Work Sampling method to solve human resource waste and South Asian Automobile Trading And Trading Co., Ltd. is a typical successful application of this method.

Established in 2013, South Asian Automobile Trading And Trading Co., Ltd. operates in the field of manufacturing and mystification of passenger cars, trucks, specialized vehicles with a system of auto showrooms and a system of diversified products nationwide.

In 2019, the South Asian Automobile Company was guided by SMEDEC 2 to apply the Work Sampling tool within the framework of the National Program “Improving productivity and quality of products and goods of Vietnamese enterprises by 2020”.

Through the process of surveying and sampling randomly, many bottlenecks in the production process have been detected, typically: Specialized tools such as checkers, beaks, paints, solvents, etc., not placed in a consistent, easy-to-get position that causes the operator to spend time searching before continuing to manipulate, leading to waste of working time, central circuit breaker and decreased overall labor productivity.

The management of the South Asian Automobile company has actively urged employees of departments to join hands to eliminate bad habits and rebuild a production process without waste. After 7 months of implementation, the company has achieved many remarkable achievements:

  • Time to do the main work such as paint, ghost, bat, glue, stickers increased from 42% to 69%;
  • Time to perform side jobs such as exchanging information, going to get paint, going to get washed water, taking steam pipes, taking spray tubes decreased from 12% to 2%;
  • Waiting time such as on-site stay, private work decreased from 46% to 29%.

To replicate these achievements, South Asia also continues to implement the Work Sampling model to other departments such as business, services, warehouses, etc., to improve the quality of service, create a competitive advantage and meet the increasing requirements of customers.
