Saving billions of dong on production costs, improving labor safety and environmental friendliness are the benefits from deploying and applying employee initiatives (Kaizen) and 5S movement (including steps: screening, sorting, clean, caring and ready) at Masan Resources Joint Stock Company (CP) factories. With practical benefits, the movement has increasingly attracted the participation of many workers, contributing to the production and business of the unit.
Since the extrusion line of Masan Tungsten Co., Ltd. has been fitted with a working platform, the work of cleaning the machines of workers in this department has been lessened with much effort. Implementing the idea of installing the working floor, Mr. Vu Van Quang, a worker who works directly at the filter press share: The filter line has the function of removing residues and impurities from the sodium tungsten solution in deep processing of tungsten products. Accordingly, after removing residues and impurities, we will conduct cleaning machines and equipment on the line. Previously, when there was no working floor, workers had to stand below the floor to clean machines at an altitude of 1-3 meters so it was very hard and took a lot of time. Seeing this inadequacy, I thought and proposed to the plant’s leader to come up with the idea and install the working platform so that the workers could stand on the high work easily and conveniently. In addition to the working floor, other outstanding initiatives of Mr. Quang have been applied in practice such as: Moving exhaust gas pipes to ensure a clean working environment at workshops; change the position of the valve in the chemical solution tank to open and close the valve is easier and safer.
Dinh Manh Nam, Chairman of the Kaizen Council of the Factory, said: In order to stimulate the creativity of workers and improve production efficiency, in 2015, the Factory established the Kaizen Council. After many years of implementation, the movement has attracted over 300 Kaizen of workers, of which 107 Kaizen has been applied in practice. The common point of Kaizen is due to inadequacies in the production labor process, which are proposed to be implemented by workers and engineers in order to overcome limitations and improve the working environment to help improve labor productivity and minimize the risk of labor unsafety and environmental pollution.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Cuong, one of the people with many labor initiatives, shared: Through these initiatives, I myself have been able to study and cultivate more knowledge to improve my skills and creative thinking. In particular, when implementing the idea, I always receive direct guidance from Kaizen Council members.
Along with Kaizen movement, in 2018, Masan Resources Joint Stock Company also applaud the 5S movement to Nui Phao Mining and Processing Plant. The company has applied 5S in 2 “backbone” parts of Maintenance and Production to improve the working environment. Mr. Luu Duc Kien, Production department, said: “All equipment and tools after 5S application have been identified, coded, and made by the 5S team for arrangement and management. Accordingly, employees only take a few minutes to look up the list and find the right equipment, and work in an open and clean space.”
It can be seen that the application of Kaizen and 5S movement has contributed to improving labor productivity, thereby promoting production – business activities of the unit. In recent years, the Company’s revenue has achieved a growth rate of 10-15% over the same period. In particular, the work of ensuring labor, safety is increasingly improved. Within the past 3 years, the Company has not had any serious labor accident.
