MRT Castings: Promote technological innovation and management system adoption (Part 2)

One of the outstanding technology applications that has helped MRT Castings significantly improve productivity and product quality is Brother’s Speedio M140X2.

With the Speedio M140X2, raw materials entering the new Brother machine are fed automatically from the Feedio robot handling system, including the casting and the workpiece being fed into the 5-axis machine. The Feedio system is equipped with a 6-axis ABB robot that can handle billets up to 80mm in diameter or cast aluminum up to 120mm in diameter and feed them into a hydraulic chuck on the machine table.

Raw materials placed in the processing trays will be detected by the M140X2 optical sensor and notified to the operating PC. After processing, semi-finished products are also discovered by the same method. This helps MRT Castings tightly manage the process, better control resources and speed up the production process.

As an example of the recent order for LED aluminum frame production, prototypes have been produced on a twin-shaft lathe with a milling unit, but since only about 30% of the machining process is rotating the M140X2 is the most suitable device. Thanks to the fully automated process, the cycle times for each batch have almost halved from 15 to 8 minutes. The machine capacity is also higher than that of the 16,000rpm milling spindle and its rapid acceleration/deceleration tool changes in less than a second, cutting speed is up to 30m/min, and rapids 50m/min.

Currently, the MRT team is exploiting the potential of the M140X2 to more thoroughly integrate the field of automation into their manufacturing processes. It is expected that in the future, the output of each production batch will increase by 500-1000 products.
