Currently, in industrialized countries, welding quality control issues are of great concern, especially to ensure the safety of people and constructions in many parts of the world.
The application of ISO 3834 “Quality requirements for molten metal welding” and other relevant standards is a mandatory requirement (as specified in EU Directives) and is widely applied for businesses producing mechanical products, manufacturing equipment in order to control product quality, ensure safety, minimize costs and improve competitiveness.
ISO 3834 is a set of international standards developed by experts in the field of welding techniques. ISO 3834 is used as the requirements for products manufactured primarily by welding methods for quality control and failure prevention.
Metal melting welding technology is used in the production of many products and is used in many fields, such as: petroleum industry, shipbuilding industry, high-speed rail, industrial aircraft, petrochemicals, chemicals, industrial machinery manufacturing. In addition, welding is often used to link metal products, which has a significant impact on product cost and quality. That is why businesses that are certified in accordance with ISO 3834 will have many advantages when competing in the market.
Application of ISO 3834 (quality requirements for molten metal welding) and other relevant standards in some European countries is required. This is to control product quality, ensure safety, minimize costs and improve competitiveness. In the US and some related countries, the welding process must comply with the US technical codes (code) strictly, to ensure product safety. Therefore, supporting the manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam to apply ISO 3834 is an objective and really necessary requirement.
Viet Duc Technology Transfer Center has set up the task of S&T “Promoting the application of technical standards on the quality of welding products ISO 3834 to mechanical engineering enterprises in 2018”, thereby realizing currently supporting 10 mechanical engineering enterprises and creating a certain change in productivity and product quality management at enterprises.
In the process of collecting and conducting field surveys, Technology Transfer Center selected 10 enterprises to carry out the task. The task team conducted training and consulting on the construction of a quality management system (Quality Management System) according to ISO 3834 standard in 10 enterprises selected according to levels.
Initially, popularizing and guiding the application of standards on technical requirements to the quality of welding products ISO 3834 for 300 mechanical enterprises; organize training courses for consultants on how to apply ISO 3834 to enterprises; the task used the expert method to evaluate the effectiveness after implementing the quality management system. According to the report, all businesses are maintaining the effectiveness of the quality management system, with improvements and remedies, and this affirms: If the quality management system is well-planned, quality and appropriate, it is very effective for enterprise.
Most of the businesses involved in the project’s mission saw an increase in labor productivity after applying the standard. The rate of defective products has to be repaired and customer feedback has not been able to provide complete statistics, but according to reports, each of these enterprises has been minimized, especially at the construction site.
In order to have a clearer view of the results of the application of the Quality Management System according to ISO 3834, there should be additional support policies for businesses participating in the project so that businesses can continue to maintain and improve the management system. integrated quality; improve economic and social efficiency. It will be necessary to develop documents on the content and guidelines for applying ISO 3834 to enterprises in the near future, etc.
