Intuitive management with the 5S improvement tool

With the support from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and EPRO Consulting JSC through the Training Project, guiding the implementation of 5S good practices for industrial production enterprises, after 9 months of implementation, Cao Bang Iron and Steel JSC has improved the visual management efficiency, created a professional and scientific working environment, and reduced errors in the production and business process.

Launched from April to December 2018, however, to effectively implement the project, right from the middle of March 2018, Cao Bang Iron and Steel Joint Stock Company established the 5S Steering Committee and registered 2 5S training course of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for leaders in the company. The company has invested 270.3 million VND for the processing of cabinets, prices, 5S signs, 5S training, paint to mark and identify. The process of implementing the program has direct participation from middle and senior leaders of the company, in which the director of the company is the Head of the 5S Department and 2 deputy directors are named in the steering committee of 5S activities.

The M&E workshop is a workshop that voluntarily performs a pilot with the first activity being 5S training for all 30 employees. After 4 months of piloting, the workshop has implemented the goal of good practice of 5S and maintained each week with 40 photos before – after 5S. From the 5th month of implementation, with a clear change in management efficiency through the use of the M&E workshop area increased from 50% to 80%. 5S good practices are implemented by all employees in the workshop, are popularized, trained and replicated in other workshops.

Accordingly, tools, supplies and products are tidily arranged and clearly identified. 5S has changed the working style, style and working habits of each employee. 100% of officers and employees are trained and trained on 5S, production activities in the company apply 5S before and after working, etc.

This is the developmental foundation of productivity and quality. In addition, 5S also helps units, departments, divisions and workshops in the company improve corporate governance capacity. At the same time, to prevent degradation of equipment and tools, create ventilation in the workplace, avoid wasting time searching for items and records. Production equipment operates in an environment that conforms to safe quality standards.
