Integration of TPM and ISO 9001-2015: Twice as effective

Many tools and solutions to help businesses improve productivity, product quality, integrated productivity maintenance (TPM) and ISO 9001: 2015 solutions are evaluated to bring high efficiency. However, to apply this solution, requires businesses to have a solid management foundation.

In Vietnam, according to a report of the Vietnam Productivity Institute (VNPI), only a few businesses have successfully integrated TPM and ISO 9001. Typically, the THACO Interior Company has focused on setting up and operating. Autonomous Maintenance for important machines selected as a pilot (250 ton plastic injection molding machine), then replicates the AM model for other machines (plastic vacuum line and film conveyor complex) to produce plastic parts. After 7 months of implementation, the application of TPM has contributed to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of existing management systems based on the maximum integration of the document system and the process of operation, evaluation and improvement. advanced system. Specifically, the OEE (overall equipment efficiency) of the pilot machine has increased from 43% to 75%. This has a positive impact on the company’s production and business efficiency by reducing downtime, speed and quality.

At Tien Phong Plastic Joint Stock Company (NTP), thanks to the integration of productivity improvement tools (5S, TPM) with ISO 9001, the company’s labor productivity is enhanced; vehicles, machines and equipment with efficiency above 90%. In particular, the integration of TPM with ISO 9001 is a key factor that helps NTP to improve its performance and competitiveness. 5S has been implemented by NTP since 2013, starting from a factory. After seeing the effect, NTP has expanded to all factories and offices of the company nationwide.

From the success of 5S, NTP continues to deploy TPM for manufacturing plants and integrates with ISO 9001, ISO 14000, ISO 50001 and improved tools 5S, TPM, LSS, Lean SixSigma. Results achieved after 6 months of deployment, the OEE index of the device reached over 50%, production time decreased from 132.3 seconds / product to 102.92 seconds / product, labor productivity from 24.7 products / person / hour increased to 31.3 products / person / hour, reducing production costs from 66,006.3 VND / product to 1,130.1 VND / product, helping to save more than 1, VND 14 billion and reduced 3 stages of production.

According to Associate Professor. Dr. Do Thi Ngoc – University of Commerce, to be able to implement TPM, 5S is considered a foundation activity. Enterprises that implement well 5S can identify problems and make improvements in TPM. The integration method is based on the PDCA circle principle, along with the pillars of TPM and the terms required by ISO 9001: 2015. Therefore, to implement the above integrated method, firstly, enterprises must have a process of building and successfully applying ISO 9001: 2015 quality management system, applying 5S productivity improvement tools and approaching is TPM. These tools have contributed to create a solid management foundation for businesses.

Through the results of some of the above models, businesses said that for successful implementation, the participation of all leaders and employees in the enterprise is a solid foundation factor, ensuring successful integration.

Associate Professor. Dr. Do Thi Ngoc – University of Commerce:

The principle of “Participation of all people” according to ISO 9000: 2015 indicates that competent and competent personnel at all levels of the organization are essential to improving the capacity of the organization in creating and delivering value.
