IATF 16949: 2016 was issued in October 2016. This new standard for the automotive and auto parts industry replaces ISO/TS 16949: 2009. The deadline to switch to the new standard is September 14, 2018. This can be awkward and time consuming for businesses. Therefore, organizations and businesses should refer to IATF 16949:2016, here are some of the most important requirements to support organizations in developing their strategies.
Time requirement:
After October 1, 2017 there will not be any audits (certification, monitoring, recertification or conversion) conducted in accordance with ISO/TS 16949: 2009.
Only organizations that currently have ISO/TS 16949: 2009 can convert to IATF 16949: 2016 certification. This conversion will comply with the audit organization’s audit plan and usually takes place at the time of the scheduled monitoring or re-certification audit.
The conversion must be done before September 14, 2018.
Request conversion evaluation:
- Making the switch requires a full system evaluation
- First, conduct a document review for every production department that wants to make the transition. An evaluation of the organization’s quality management system, such as quality guidelines, procedures, and evidence of compliance with the new IATF 16949 requirements, is required.
- From the information that is reviewed, we will determine if the organization is ready to conduct conversion assessment and key areas will be prioritized.
- If for any reason the organization is unable to conduct the required conversion assessment on time, they will have to start with a recertification audit against the new standard.
- A very important point for organizations to identify is that the ISO 9001:2015 conversion assessment requirements will also be verified.
Request certification:
- The organization should ensure that its staff has passed all necessary training on the new standard.
- If organizations meet these requirements and have an appropriate evaluation result after the conversion procedure, IATF 16949:2016 certificate will be issued, including certificate number, issue date and expiry term.
