The 5S Good Practice Guide program of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Epro Consulting Corporation was implemented at Hong Ngoc Hydropower Co., Ltd. from May to December 2018 in 4 areas: Hydroelectric Dam; power plant area and mechanical warehouse; central houses and workers’ motel areas.
Phase 1, consultants conduct training organizations for senior leaders of factories and companies. At the same time, the 5S Steering Committee with 10 members was established, with the direct participation of the company’s director and managing director of Hong Ngoc Hydropower Plant as head of 5S department and head, deputy department, department and department. The 5S board together with consultants conducted surveys, formulating plans for 5 steps to implement 5S. The company promulgates bonus policies for departments and employees to well implement 5S as well as documents, regulations and guidelines for 5S implementation. The head of 5S department and the director of the company directly organize training for all employees in the company.
The enterprise has invested about 20 million VND for the substrate item, making the staircase at the cutting knife station for the operator to close – disconnect the power more easily, ensuring safety. With only simple solutions, employees have found 5S easy to do, so they are actively involved and improve the sense of responsibility at work.

After 6 months of 5S implementation, the company’s appearance has changed, cleaner areas, machinery and shelf warehouses are located and identified. The working style is enthusiastic to implement 5S good practice, from logistics department to factory and company leaders. Workers’ consciousness has changed markedly; the cleaning and maintenance of the engine nest, power stations are carried out proactively, workers enhance the work of electrical safety through the serious implementation of regulations on safety distance to electrical cabinets, etc.
Hong Ngoc Hydropower message wants to send to other hydropower enterprises, that is: Small businesses can still form the 5S movement and bring efficiency in terms of ensuring power creation time. The company was granted certificate No. 5S/2018/ DN-19 on 20/12/2018 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on good practice of 5S in enterprises.
