The global standard for continuous business management (CBN) was started research and development in the mid-2000s.
The Technical Committee 223 (TC 223 and Social Security) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) examines these standards and thereby establishes a framework for ISO 22301:2012.
The period 2000-2010 is an explosion of development of CBN standards worldwide. Most of the members of the European Commission have applied the current CBN standards, typically the British standard, BS 25999, while countries like Japan and India have updated their financial standards and Current banks become national standards. Other countries, such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore, have developed their own CBN management standards. As the number of CBN standards increases, so does the need for a unified standard to help consensus in the preparation, testing and implementation of CBN plans. This is also an urgent need of many global businesses, especially multinational businesses.
In December 2007, Commission 223 published ISO PAS 22399 (Publicly Available Specification) on “Social security – Guidance for incident preparation and continuous operation”. ISO PAS 22399 provides a way for the global community to assess the potential of the CBT standard. Later, at the end of 2010, ISO 22301 was introduced to replace PAS 22399. In May 2012, this standard was officially issued.
ISO 22301 is an international standard for a continuous business management system that helps businesses develop business plans that continuously protect and recover quickly when an accident causes disruption activities. The system also helps businesses identify potential business risks and builds a system that is capable of handling unforeseen events.
This standard is applicable to all organizations and businesses, regardless of scope, scale or product, production and business activities. However, ISO 22301 is especially important for organizations operating in high-risk environments, affecting many subjects such as the electricity industry, financial services, construction, oil and gas, traffic, telecommunications, food production, etc or organizations where continuous operation is essential, such as the public sector.
