Since April 2019, Hong Ha Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has started to deploy TPM under the support program of Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Trade. TPM targets are set for each workshop in the factory (M&E workshop, Shipbuilding workshop, M&E workshop and Motivation workshop) to achieve a common goal of yielding comprehensive equipment management productivity.
Implement steps
Right from the start of TPM deployment, the factory has organized TPM training for managers and operating staff of 4 workshops, since then, the self-maintenance pillar has been started by hanging a red card at the workshop.
After 2 months of deploying, most of the workshops’ employees hanged the red cards as soon as they observed and discovered abnormalities in machines and tools.
From the 3rd month, the factory organizes training of PM pillars (planned maintenance) for factory managers. After the training, important machines and equipment were planned and started following TPM form for incidents.
The implementation of the PM pillar is carried out focusing on eliminating the cause of subjective degradation, overcoming and maintaining basic conditions.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chung – Deputy Head of Technical Department, said: “The main purpose of applying TPM at the company is to bring productivity in comprehensive equipment management (the biggest and transparent goal), and which covers the technical, quality and economic aspects. Based on this goal, the TPM Committee sets out each specific goal. For example: From a technical perspective, the first thing that TPM helps workers, especially those who directly operate, is aware of how to take care of the machines they are assigned, manage and use effectively.
In order to effectively use the objective (1) reduce downtime due to damage; (2) early detection of failures to avoid severe damage, and (3) raising the sense of self-discipline for each operator who manages the machine during operation, to always take care of the machine, to ensure it is always running. good, efficient and maintain the operating hours, it should be done from cleaning daily equipment. In terms of technical aspects, good machine operation, the product quality will be raised (on the contrary, the machine is broken every day, if not clean, the product produced can not be quality). From a technical perspective of the machine will affect the quality of the product. And when the technology and quality are good, TPM helps us to detect errors early, thereby preventing major damage, thereby reducing the cost of replacing and repairing supplies, saving production costs. export and improve overall productivity ”.
The new TPM program applies to only 4 workshops, but the goals have been achieved. TPM Board realized that in the recent past, AM activities alone helped to achieve two specific effects:
After more than 6 months of implementation, and seeing the effectiveness of the TPM program, the company’s TPM Committee will also propose TPM goals in the near future: (1) The program spreads throughout the factory (expanding its scope Apply from 4 workshops to the whole factory); (2) raise the awareness of employees throughout the factory so that everyone is aware of the effectiveness of this TPM program, to apply voluntarily in the next time.
