Evaluate the effectiveness of 5S implementation at enterprises in the support program of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the 2017-2018 period

In early 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Trade accepted the results of the mission: “Training, guiding the implementation of 5S practice in enterprises of Industry and Trade sector”, chaired by EPRO Consulting Joint Stock Company, in the period of implementation. 2017 – 2018. The Consultant has selected and surveyed from 63 businesses across the country registered to participate in the direct consulting support program to select 39 enterprises eligible to participate. After consulting and implementing process, 36/39 enterprises achieved the results as committed and certified from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Assessing the effectiveness of 5S implementation in enterprises shows:

– Besides the effectiveness of visual management, good 5S practices also help to change the working style of employees to bring about effective changes in productivity and quality.

– The program has built 5S movement and maintained 5S activities as a basis for replication to other areas.

– Staffs and employees of the company are trained on 5S, many businesses in the support program have arranged to complete the training for 100% of the company’s employees.

– The company’s image has been positively improved in the eyes of domestic and foreign customers and partners.

– 5S implementation areas are supported to develop evaluation charts and mechanisms to maintain internal audit activities. Many companies that previously implemented 5S but failed now find solutions to maintain and preserve the achieved 5S results.

– The morale of officials and employees of the company has been raised, people are excited and enthusiastic to participate in activities to keep the workplace clean and sanitary, improve work efficiency.

The following are some companies that have effectively improved their productivity, quality and safety when implementing this program:

– Son Ha Energy Development Joint Stock Company reduces inventory time of materials and spare parts from 3 days to 1 day, increasing the productivity of the whole plant to 16%.

– VILACO Joint Stock Company increases 10% of the electromechanical workshop area after screening and removing unnecessary items.

– Cuong Vinh Production & Trading – Service Co., Ltd made 30 improvements to 5S and safety to improve the working environment, etc.

– ESUN Electromechanical Transportation and Trading Co., Ltd reduced 60% of time to take materials in warehouses, warehouse inventory time reduced from 7 days to 1 day; The production premises are clearly functional and increase 30% of the used area for working.

– Ton Dong A Joint Stock Company, after screening and arranging, has made use of another 10% of the working area.

– Phu Tho Textile Co., Ltd. installed 2 sets of automatic hygiene to reduce staff time and effort; arrange more technical boxes to ensure neat and safer wiring.

– Global Technology & Equipment Joint Stock Company changed the way of placing sheet metal to save 75% of material storage area for production use. The renovated office area helps to increase 6.4 times of used area.
