Engineer who saves billions dong by initiatives

Metallurgical engineer Vo Van Dong is called as a “innovative tree” contributing many solutions to reduce energy consumption, increase production efficiency, thereby saving billions in production for Cao Bang Cast Iron And Steel Joint Stock Company. Recently, he was honored to receive the title of promising young Vietnamese face in 2019 of the Central Committee of the Central Committee.

“The billion VND initiative tree”

Mr.Vo Van Dong comes from a poor farming family of Nghe An province. He passed the exam to National Economics University, but when he won a scholarship to study in China of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group, he decided to study metallurgy. “Because my family was so difficult, when I received the scholarship to study abroad in China, I immediately decided to study and be passionate about this profession since then”, Mr.Vo Van Dong shared.

After finishing the course in China, he returned to Viet Nam. From October 2012, Vo Van Dong has been working at Cao Bang Cast Iron and Steel Joint Stock Company. At the same time, he shared a long time eating and sleeping in the workshop to supervise the operation of the machines, support the workers and handle the incidents. It is not uncommon for him and his colleagues to stay awake to handle incidents. In 2016, when steel slag heated up causing danger to the production system, even dangerous to the lives of workers, he and his colleagues took hours to handle or times to handle fire incidents. the conveyor plate at the top of the blast furnace or the blast iron because of rainwater. Thanks to the exploration, troubleshooting, he matured a lot.

For nearly ten years working at Cao Bang Cast Iron and Steel Joint Stock Company, Mr. Dong has contributed many initiatives and solutions to reduce costs and consumption in production. In the early days of 2019, 3A coal which was used as a combustion in sintering had price up. While using, many 3A coal particles do not burn completely causing waste. Facing that fact, after nearly 1 month of concern and exploration, Vo Van Dong proposed a plan to change type of coal. After three consecutive discussions with critical comments on the price, consumption level of coal types, etc, his proposal was agreed to test coke coal powder, coal dust 4A. The result of price, heat, etc, far exceeded everyone’s expectations. This initiative has saved the company 30 billion VND.

Previously, from the reality in production, the daily surplus of coal gas flew straight to the sky and the local available limestone sources had to be imported from other places with high prices, resulting in increased costs and production without proactive, even interrupted, therefore Dong and colleagues have researched a solution. Dong’s team brought a solution to build an industrial lime kiln to recover residual coal gas from blast furnaces and sources of limestone materials to directly produce calcined lime at Cao Bang Iron and Steel Complex. Thereby, reducing the cost of calcined lime, proactively providing auxiliary resources for production contributes to environmental protection. The solution of recovering surplus coal gas from blast furnace to produce calcined lime has saved over VND 4.48 billion; create jobs for more than 30 local workers with an average salary of 5 million VND / person-month.

Besides, Mr.Dong and his colleagues have other technical innovations, which also benefit of millions of dong such as: the method of using billet gas instead of the method of using gas generators, benefiting more than 211 million dong; using sintered ore as a raw material to create slag in steel production, benefiting 150 million dong, etc.

The young engineer shared that the ideas and initiatives of him and his colleagues all came from practical situations, difficulties in production and how to remove and bring more reasonable effects. “In addition, the support, encouragement from the superiors and colleagues is also a motivation for me to study”, engineer Vo Van Dong shared.

Charity activities

Not only is a professional engineer with many initiatives, Vo Van Dong also plays the role of Deputy Secretary of the Company Union. He advised the Party Committee and leaders at the unit in organizing and implementing programs and movements of the Union such as: “Make Chung cake – Warm on Tet holiday”, “Winter warmth” , Youth Workers’ Day, effectively implemented the campaign “Socialist Labor Day to build new countryside”. Join the founding and vice chairman of the company’s blood donation club, organizing many blood donation programs.

In 2018, Dong also established a “Cao Bang listening” volunteer group connecting hearts inside and outside Cao Bang province to join hands to share the difficulties of the upland people. Up to now, the group has 40 official members and has received the support and support of many benefactors in the activities of giving gifts for the New Year, starting a new school year, etc.

With many achievements in the work as well as union activities, in 2018 Vo Van Dong achieved Emulation Fighter at the Company level, Emulation Fighter at the Corporation level. Awarded Certificate “Chairman of Cao Bang Province’s Young People in 2018” by Cao Bang Provincial People’s Committee Chairman.

In 2019, he was awarded the “National Excellent Young Worker Award” by Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee every year to honor good young workers, contributing to promoting career passion among young people. Recently, Vo Van Dong was honored to receive the title of promising young Vietnamese face in 2019 from the Central Executive Committee of the Youth Union.
