Cao Son Coal: Increasing production through investment in modern drilling

Cao Son Coal Joint Stock Company is known as the unit with the largest raw coal mining output of Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV). In 2018, the Company bravely invested in purchasing a hydraulic rotary drilling CAT MD6250 machine (US technology) to serve the drilling and blasting operations of open-pit coal mining. After putting new technology into use, the Company has improved the exploitation output, and significantly saved human resources.

Mining output from 3.5-3.7 million tons of coal / year, Cao Son Coal needs to detonate and remove about 37 million cubic meters of rock / year. Before the situation of the CBW-250 drilling system, which has been put into operation so far, which has deteriorated, affecting the progress of drilling and blasting for production, the Company has invested to import a hydraulic rotary drilling rig CAT MID6250 is based on American technology.

The MD6250 CAT drill is a crawler-driven hydraulic spherical-driven drilling rig that controls digital electronic work modes. Diesel engine used to drill soil for blasting, loosening in mining; At the same time, the machine can flexibly move the production areas under the deep trench. Compared to the previous drilling machine, which only drills to a maximum depth of 32m, the CAT MD6250 can drill to a depth of 54m.

In addition, this new drill has many advanced technology features such as data connection, updated software to monitor drilling hours and fuel amount, the accuracy of the drill reaches 100%. Many operations of the drilling machine were automated so that the company reduced the labor from 3 people to 2 people compared to when operating the old drilling machine.

The application of new technology requires the operator to have experience and technique, so the Company also focuses on training employees to take the initiative in using the equipment. More than 20 workers are now able to operate and master the new drilling technology.

After nearly 2 years of putting the MD6250 CAT drilling machine into operation, the progress of blasting, excavating and excavating of Cao Son Coal has been speeded up, completed beyond the norm. Therefore, in early February 2020, the Company continued to invest in one more CAT MD6250 drilling machine. In the coming time, the Company will consider investing in additional excavators and drills to replace old and outdated equipment for production.
