Binh Son Refinery and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company: 2 Initiatives of more than VND 20 billion / year

At the awarding ceremony of Science and Technology Innovation in Vietnam, Binh Son Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR) has up to 2 winning solutions. BSR’s solutions are aimed at ensuring the operating reliability of the equipment in the conditions of operating at high capacity of 110 – 115% of the design, contributing to an annual economic benefit of over VND 23 billion for Business.

First of all, the solution “Refine and optimize the operating parameters PRU Workshop (Propylene Recovery Unit) to maximize the recovery of propylene products in the condition of workshops operating at high capacity 110 – 115% The design “was introduced by BSR at the end of 2017. Accordingly, propylene is one of the 10 products of Dung Quat Oil Refinery (NMLD), manufactured from PRU Workshop, when running at a higher capacity than that. The design (about 110 – 115%) overloads the Propan / Propylene Splitter tower, leading to a reduction in the recovery of propylene products (about 93% before refining). After monitoring, statistics and analysis of propylene loss data, the authors have come up with timely refining solutions. As a result, helping the factory solve the shortage of propylene raw materials, PRU Workshop operates stably with high reliability.

Engineer Ho Quang Xuan Nhan – Editor of the initiative – said: During the implementation process, there were many times when the input materials suddenly changed, LPG input flow and propylene loss skyrocketed, so that the number of full statistics, relevant departments and departments have to take and analyze samples with very thick frequency but still ensure accurate sample analysis results to adjust effectively and timely. Especially, after one year of application, the profit generated by this solution reaches USD 800,000, equivalent to VND 17 billion / year. In addition, the solution also helps BSR not spend the cost of buying propylene from the outside, contributing to helping the Polypropylene Workshop achieve production targets.

Another initiative that has brought BSR huge economic benefits is the initiative “Research on durable emulsifying oil in sour water at SWS workshop”. Accordingly, the phenomenon of stable emulsification in water in Dung Quat oil refinery has never happened in similar oil refineries in the world. After a period of research, testing, the solution “Researching durable emulsifying oil in sour water at SWS Workshop” was born, successfully applied and solved technical problems at SWS workshop.

The solution that the authors propose is to use a combination of physical separation methods to be able to break oil-stable emulsions in water that conventional chemical methods using emulsifiers do not work as expected. Engineer Le Quoc Viet – representative of the author group – said: We have conducted tests to evaluate the ability of durable oil emulsified in sour water, including the use of chemical demulsification; spray LGO into sour water to increase the ability to extract emulsified oil from sour water; spray N2 into sour water to reduce the specific pressure of dissolved hydrocarbon gas to improve separation capacity; TK-1801 used as a buffer pool to increase the retention time of sour water. With the successful trial and application, from 2015 to the present, the solution has benefited 6.1 billion VND / year, by reducing maintenance costs and steam consumption.
