Bau Truc pottery: Taking the lead in improving product quality traditional villages

In recent years, from the local industrial promotion funding source, Center for Industrial Promotion and Trade Promotion of Ninh Thuan province has supported many businesses, production establishments and traditional trade villages invest in purchasing machinery and equipment equipped with modern technology, contributing to increase productivity and improve product quality.

In the Ninh Thuan province, Bau Truc traditional pottery village is known for its unique products, imbued with Cham culture, which has entered the living space of consumers and the product consumption market is wide open provinces and cities across the country. However, the trade village is still limited due to the small production nature, the product is subject to increasingly fierce competition with the same type of pottery. Through industrial promotion funding, Bau Truc pottery has been investing and improving from scale to productivity and product quality.

It is known that the Bau Truc pottery village has more than 400 households doing pottery, the facilities are supported in many aspects of the province’s industrial promotion programs and policies such as technical infrastructure investment, vocational training, sightseeing learning from the experience of ceramic villages in all over the country, etc. However, ceramic production here is limited due to the traditional way of burning (outdoor burning) has not been improved affecting the quality of products. Consumers have not appreciated the baked quality of Bau Truc pottery, this is the main reason leading to the decline in product consumption.

Thanks to the attention of the functional departments, local authorities and the efforts of production facilities, the difficulties have gradually been removed. To support the pottery manufacturing village, from the national industrial promotion capital, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ninh Thuan has supported VND 40 million for two ceramic production establishments in Bau Truc to invest in ceramic kilns in the model of kilns Thanh Ha pottery (Quang Nam) in order to improve the weakest stage in the quality of Bau Truc pottery today.

Ceramic establishments have expanded the way of firing pottery by kilns to improve product quality, minimize products damaged by cracks and tanks; reduce the rate of defective products; In addition, this method reduces dust and smoke significantly compared to the outdoor method, reducing fuel consumption, etc. Besides, the productivity is improved when the ceramic kiln can meet the large size products. The kiln also allows Bau Truc potters to perform techniques to color the pottery skin such as how to burn and can be used even in unfavorable weather conditions.

From converting the open burning method to the furnace model, it has helped many villages simultaneously solve many problems. Now the pottery production in Bau Truc is no longer dependent on the weather, can be produced all year round, product quality after firing evenly, stabilizing production, ensuring environmental sanitation.
