Applying TPM at Hong Ha Shipbuilding Company

Last April, Hong Ha Shipyard started to deploy TPM (Maintaining overall equipment performance) under the support program of Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Trade.

TPM targets are set for each workshop in the factory (M&E workshop, Shipyard workshop, M&E workshop and Motivation workshop), specifically:

• Maintain monthly TPM red card activities at each workshop (minimum of 16 TPM red cards/month)
• Before and After changes of photos on 5S and TPM are updated continuously, weekly for TPM department
• From April to September, an average of 3 kaizen/month
• Collect data and monitor the percentage of repairs completed.
• Effective management of main equipment through MTTR, MTBF, of 4 workshops.

In April, the factory organized TPM training for managers and operating staff of 4 workshops, thereby, starting the self-maintenance pillar by hanging a red card at the workshop.

After 2 months of implementation, most employees of the workshops hanged the red card as soon as they observed and discovered abnormalities in machines and tools.

From the 3rd month, the factory organizes training of PM pillars (planned maintenance) for factory managers. After the training, important machines and equipment were planned and started following TPM form for incidents.

The implementation of PM pillar will be carried out focusing on phase 1: Eliminating subjective causes of machine degradation, overcoming and maintaining the basic conditions.

Hong Ha Shipbuilding One Member Co., Ltd is an independent state-owned accounting business. The main activities of the Company are building and repairing warships, patrol boats, patrol boats, high-speed boats, multipurpose cargo ships (CMPs), etc.

The factory also built many types of ships exported to foreign countries, including the European market. Product quality is guaranteed by the Quality Management System ISO 9001 – 2015, in addition the company also meets ISO 14001 standards for the environment, OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety management systems.

Due to the interest in investing in science and technology, Hong Ha Shipbuilding Company has been awarded 2 big awards. That is “Compiling shipbuilding technology process TT400”, winning the State Prize in 2012; “Researching on technological innovation of construction design and manufacture of 2,800 tons of asphalt tankers”, winning the VIFOTECT Science and Technology award (March 2013).
