Achievements from the application of quality management systems for businesses in Ho Chi Minh City

The application of a quality productivity management system in Ho Chi Minh City is creating many big changes, many businesses achieve 3-7 times the sales compared to non-applying enterprises. Without really innovating by improving quality productivity, it is very difficult for businesses to compete in today’s fierce market.

The National Quality Award (NTP) has great significance in helping businesses orient their business models and improve their capacity.

Improve quality to conquer potential markets

Nearly 20 years of sticking to the National Quality Award and being one of the two enterprises of Ho Chi Minh City winning the gold award in 2017, representatives of Thinh Phat Power Cable Joint Stock Company, Mr. Truong Cao Cuong, Deputy General Director of the company shared: “National Quality Award is a national award, formed from the movement of quality productivity, so businesses see this as pride and confidence to assert themselves in the marketplace. Nearly 20 years of participating in the awards and towards 7 criteria of the award have helped us to have a complete business model.”

By focusing on researching and upgrading products in time, the company has completed products that can withstand harsh weather, meeting the needs of customers. As a result, Australia remains a key market for the company.

According to Mr. Cuong, this is the result of experience gained from training, pursuing quality productivity through nearly 20 years of attending the NTP. At the same time the application of productivity improvement tools and ISO 9001 quality management systems; ISO 50001 energy management system; KAIZEN, 5S, etc helped the company a lot in forming an advanced and modern business model.

According to statistics of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Quality Measurement Standards, businesses applying ISO 9001:2015 management system, productivity, revenue and profit increased significantly from 30% – 50% over the previous year. Customers from these businesses have a return rate exceeding 80%. Coordinated operating processes between parts become more rhythmic thanks to a clear assignment of responsibilities.

Forming 20 enterprise model points

In order to help businesses overcome obstacles, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Standards and Quality has organized 922 popular classes, propaganda, training and international cooperation on building and applying advanced management system progress, the National Quality Assurance and productivity improvement tools. Labor productivity management systems and tools have helped businesses improve their production processes, prevent errors, minimize risks and waste.

The program attracted 38,530 participants, of which 719 businesses were supported to apply quality management systems and tools to improve quality and productivity. Thereby, many quality management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 14001, IATF 16949, ISO 13485, OHSAS 18001, GMP, 5S, Kaizen, ISO 22000, ISO 50001 have been trained by the Sub-Department and advise businesses, etc.

According to the plan, by the end of 2020, Ho Chi Minh City will form 20 pilot enterprises on the application of management systems and tools to improve quality and productivity. These models will apply management systems, quality productivity improvement tools such as 5S, KPI, ISO 9001, ISO 14000, etc. Participants will be supported with propaganda, participation and training with VND 15 million/time/day and support the construction cost, form the point model.
